AI estimates for plumbers: techs talk through the job and get a customer-ready write-up
Cornel's Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning
What they did with AI
Cornel's Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning, a family-owned shop in the Portland, OR metro area, has had its technicians write estimates with BlueBoost since June 2024. Instead of typing a few technical lines on a tablet, a tech talks through what they found and the AI turns each option into a clear, detailed write-up a homeowner can follow, which matters on big jobs like repipes and trenchless sewer replacements. BlueBoost reports, from its own dashboard for June 2024 through Oct 11, 2026, more than 17,500 estimates on jobs totaling $13.4M in sales, a 26.4% higher average ticket and 10% more estimates per job versus jobs written without it, and an estimated 1,460 hours of writing saved (assuming five minutes per estimate). AI for plumbing and HVAC back office: Claude-built pricing calculators, payroll workbooks and automatic install jobs
Blanton & Sons (Adam Grubb, GM; Charleston, SC area)
Blanton & Sons, a family-owned plumbing and HVAC company in the Charleston, South Carolina area, runs on ServiceTitan, and general manager Adam Grubb (a former plumber) automates every back-office process he can. He used Claude and ChatGPT to build his own tools: a mobile pricing calculator where a tech enters equipment cost, material cost, target margin and commission and gets a price plus a range of acceptable prices, a reverse version that shows management the margin and commission a quoted price implies, and payroll workbooks that handle South Carolina's overtime-on-commission math. With an outside AI shop he built a workflow that takes a job a tech marks "perform later," builds the install job in ServiceTitan and sends the purchase order, which replaced the install coordinator's paperwork; that employee now spot-checks the automation and spends her time with customers. Techs use ServiceTitan's Atlas assistant and ChatGPT for troubleshooting and manuals, and a vendor tool called Buck AI assigns calls on the dispatch board by tech skills, area and schedule. Grubb says dispatch "used to be an all-day job" and is now weekly capacity management. He outsources anything with legal exposure, such as payroll automation. No figures beyond his own descriptions.
AI-assisted HVAC diagnostics: a McDonough, GA contractor's in-house software and its 90% drop in callbacks
Absolute Best Air
Absolute Best Air, a residential HVAC company in McDonough, Georgia, says owner David Longino built a proprietary diagnostic and indoor-air-quality system called AI IAQ (patent application pending). The company's website describes software that pulls system and indoor-air-quality measurements into one view so the technician can see patterns, document conditions and explain a repair or replacement recommendation; it says a technician stays in control and the software does not replace judgment. In an Oct 22, 2026 press release the company reports that since deploying it in March 2026 it completes its 151-point inspection in about 30 minutes instead of roughly three hours, cut callbacks and return trips 90% and reached a 99% first-time fix rate. These are company-reported figures from its own release; the release does not describe the underlying model or how the results were measured, and the company says its continuous-monitoring hardware is still in development.
AI plumbing takeoffs: go from 1–2 bids a week to 8–9 without hiring another estimator
Harner Plumbing
Harner Plumbing, a full-service residential and commercial plumbing company in Mantua, Ohio (founded 1977), was doing its takeoffs by hand with tools like FastPIPE. One bid could take up to a week, so the team could only get out one or two bids a week. Since December 2024 it has used Beam AI, which reads PDF plan sheets and pulls out pipe lengths, fittings, fixtures and equipment, with the vendor's QA team reviewing each takeoff before it's delivered. Beam AI reports that Harner saves about seven days per takeoff and increased bid volume 4.5x; Assistant Project Manager Danell Zarrelli is quoted on Beam AI's site saying the team went "from 2 bids a week to 8–9, with no extra hires."
